Dried meat vs dried FISH

A few tens of kilometers further, another mirage. This time hanging from the branches of a tree. Bats? No fish, hanging on the roadside. Under the tree welcomes us Gabriel, who shows us her products: catfish and smoked tigerfish. While the grandfather played with the little sisters, he tells us that fish them from the Von Bach Dam. They sell them there, on the road, in the dust.

Dried MEAT vs dried fish

Near Karibib, a stop at a small shop in the middle of the bush, opens a panorama of local specialties. The owners, of German ancestry, manage it carefully. Refrigerators full, automatic slicers, digital scales, gloves. They sell one of the most popular foods in the region, from Namibia to South Africa. It is the biltong: dried beef bresaola type that prepare with beef or game (almost only kudu or oryx, two local antelope). There is also in sausages: the droewurs.

Sunday waiting

In the entire city center, the only store open is a Pick and Pay, a supermarket in a shopping center. There are many families with children who are lost in the shelves. Ndeshi is a saleswoman and tells us: "many customers come to the cash register, realize they do not have enough money and leave the products. We must put it back. Hard work" laughs about it.
